Buildings and Landmarks Join LRF to Light Red and Raise Awareness for Blood Cancer Awareness Month

The Tenth Anniversary of the Lymphoma Research Foundation’s Blood Cancer Awareness Month Initiative Expected to Reach Millions

September marks the 10th Anniversary of Blood Cancer Awareness Month (BCAM) and the Lymphoma Research Foundation’s international Light it Red for Lymphoma awareness initiative. This milestone year also culminates during the Lymphoma Research Foundation’s celebration of 25 years of innovation and progress.

Capped by World Lymphoma Awareness Day (WALD) on Sept. 15, Light it Red for Lymphoma is designed to garner awareness during September by encouraging not only buildings, landmarks, and businesses to glow red, but also individuals to dress in red and support BCAM on social media and their communities.  LRF will further seek to raise funds and awareness during BCAM by hosting a series of virtual education events, and end the month with its virtual 25th Anniversary Gala “Finding Cures Starts With You” on Sept. 30.

In direct partnership with LRF, more than 60 national and international buildings and landmarks will participate in this year’s Light it Red for Lymphoma initiative, including the Bell Tower in Perth, Australia; CN Tower in Ontario, Canada; the Helmsley Building in New York, N.Y.; the Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) in Los Angeles, Calif.; Wrigley Building in Chicago, Ill.; Parthenon in Nashville, Tenn.; and more.  For a full list of Lighting Partners, visit lymphoma.org/lightitred.

“The first step in eradicating a disease like lymphoma is raising awareness on behalf of all those affected by this type of blood cancer,” said Meghan Gutierrez, Chief Executive Officer for the Lymphoma Research Foundation.  “Each year, we at the Lymphoma Research Foundation are honored to convene these wonderful lighting partners from around the world in this truly global show of support for the lymphoma community, with the hope of raising awareness for all those touched by this disease.”

In addition to the awareness that LRF hopes to generate through these high-visibility shows of support, the Foundation encourages businesses and individuals to get involved in the Light it Red for Lymphoma initiative in their companies, homes, local communities, and online.  For information and suggestions on how to Light it Red, visit lymphoma.org/howtolir.
