Thousands to Raise Awareness and Funds through Virtual Celebration and Socially Distanced Neighborhood Walks
The Lymphoma Research Foundation (LRF) will offer Walk On! America, a twist on its Spring 2021 Team LRF Lymphoma Walks to bring the lymphoma community together safely in the time of COVID-19.
Lymphoma is the most common blood cancer in adults and the third most common cancer overall in children. More than one million people in the United States are living with or in remission from lymphoma. People with lymphoma, who are in active cancer treatment or previously treated for lymphoma, are at higher risk for infections from viruses such as COVID-19 and at higher risk for serious illness from the virus.
Walk On! America will bring thousands together from across the country on June 4 for a special virtual event to learn from lymphoma experts, raise awareness, and honor lymphoma patients, survivors, and their loved ones. Additionally, supporters will have the opportunity to organize a Neighborhood Walk, allowing a safe and socially distanced way to come together and raise critical funds to support life-saving lymphoma research, support, and education programs.
“We have a wonderful opportunity to bring the lymphoma community together through this nationwide program to share their stories and actively advocate for lymphoma research, support and education,” said Meghan Gutierrez, Chief Executive Officer for the Lymphoma Research Foundation. “Our virtual event on June 4 will be a culminating event to celebrate all our supporters have done to ensure LRF’s mission can be achieved.”
Tony Award-winning actor James Monroe Iglehart (Aladdin, Hamilton), and his wife Dawn, will serve as this year’s Walk Ambassadors. Dawn was diagnosed with Hodgkin lymphoma (HL) in 2018.
“We are so excited to join the Lymphoma Research Foundation as this year’s Walk Ambassadors and help to galvanize the lymphoma community, especially during this difficult time with COVID-19,” said the Igleharts. “Even though the walk is different this year, we will still be together virtually as one community with one goal: showing our support of one another and fundraising to find cures for lymphoma.”
