Grants Mechanisms and Sample RFPs
Lymphoma Research Foundation supports innovative research in lymphoma and chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) through a variety of grant programs, including research and mentoring grants for early-career investigators, as well as subtype and/or population-specific grants for faculty investigators.
Grants are selected once a year with the guidance of the Foundation Scientific Advisory Board (SAB). Applications are reviewed by a panel of experts in lymphoma research from the SAB, who make recommendations on applications to the Foundation Board of Directors.
Questions about the Foundation’s funding opportunities may be directed to researchgrants@lymphoma.org.
Please note, the RFPs on this page may be samples of past grant mechanisms. For information on the current application cycle, please visit lymphoma.org/grants.
Lymphoma Research Foundation supports the following grants:
Early Career Grants: A cornerstone of the Foundation’s grants portfolio, the Early Career Grants have consisted of the Clinical Investigator Career Development Award and Postdoctoral Fellowship Grant since 2002. Beginning with the 2014 cycle, the Foundation added the Lymphoma Clinical Research Mentoring Program (LCRMP), which provides hands-on career development and networking opportunities to early-career scientists. The LCRMP was expanded in the 2021 cycle to the Lymphoma Scientific Research Mentoring Program (LSRMP), which adds a track for laboratory and translational early-career scientists to the existing clinical research program.
- Lymphoma Scientific Research Mentoring Program (LSRMP): The LSRMP offers mentoring and education to hematology/oncology fellows, postdoctoral fellows and junior faculty dedicated to clinical, laboratory, and translational research in the field of lymphoma and CLL. Program participants, called the Lymphoma Research Foundation Scholars, attend and participate in a week-long intensive introductory workshop in one of two tracks – Clinical or Laboratory/Translational – as well as follow-up programming intended to enhance the ability of the Foundation Scholars to successfully design and administer research studies, successfully apply for future grant funding, and collaborate with other researchers in the field.
- Postdoctoral Fellowships: A part of the Foundation’s grant portfolio since 1992, Fellowships support PhD fellows who have not completed more than 5 years of postdoctoral work, and MD fellows who have completed at least 2 years and no more than 5 years of their fellowship work. Grantees must spend at least 80 percent of their time in research; their two-year award provides salary support, professional development, and research expenses. Past awardees have completed research projects in both the clinic and laboratory in a variety of lymphoma subtypes, including investigations into the biology of lymphoma, pathways for possible novel targeted agents, and patient quality of life.
- Clinical Career Development Awards (CDA): Established in 2002, the CDA supports clinical researchers within five years of the completion of their postdoctoral training. Supported by an institutional mentor, grantees must spend at least 35 percent of their time in independent clinical research; their three-year grant provides salary support, professional development, and research expenses. Past awardees have completed clinical research projects in a variety of lymphoma subtypes.
Disease Focus Area Grants: The Lymphoma Research Foundation’s Disease Focus Area Grants seek to support research in specific subtypes and/or patient populations. Grants have taken a variety of forms including “R01” type grants for senior researchers, collaborative grants across medical disciplines, correlative awards which enhance existing clinical studies, planning grants to develop a plan, and supportive data designed to raise funds from government/other major funding sources, and exploratory/developmental grants to help develop a proof of concept. Disease Focus Area Requests for Proposals are offered as funding is available and are not open every calendar year. Past focus areas offered include:
- Adolescent/Young Adult (AYA) Lymphoma
- Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia (CLL)
- Diffuse Large B-Cell Lymphoma (DLBCL)
- Follicular Lymphoma (FL)
- Mantle Cell Lymphoma (MCL)
Requests for Proposals
The Lymphoma Research Foundations (the Foundation) announces Requests for Proposals (RFPs) on a regular basis each year, usually in early summer. Samples of recent RFPs include:
- Early Career Grant Program
- Disease Focus Area Grants
