The Lymphoma Research Foundation seeks a Senior Director of Major and Planned Giving to support the Development Department. Located in New York City, the Lymphoma Research Foundation is the nation’s largest non-profit organization devoted to funding innovative research and serving the lymphoma community through a comprehensive series of education programs, outreach initiatives, and patient services. The Foundation’s mission is to realize the promise of science to eradicate lymphoma and serve the community touched by this disease.

    About the Opportunity

    The Senior Director will lead at the intersection of major, principal, and legacy gifts. Reporting to the Chief Philanthropy Officer, this position will work with development staff throughout the country and in the National Headquarters located in New York City. The primary responsibility of this position is to generate charitable gift revenue for the Foundation and to establish and implement the infrastructure and strategy needed to grow the Major Gifts portfolio.
    This position is ideal for someone who is strategic and entrepreneurial, with the ability to take initiative, work autonomously, lead a high-performing team, and act with accountability. They will have a proven track record in cultivating, soliciting, securing, and stewarding major, principal, and legacy gifts.     This role is a non-exempt, full-time position, with a salary range between $150-$175,000. There is strong preference for this role to be hybrid, with the Senior Director attending work at the Foundation’s New York City headquarters three days a week. Consideration may be given for a remote-based role based only in a major city on the east coast or Texas.

    Responsibilities

    Fundraising and Management (85%)

    • Manage team of 4+ regional Major Gift Officers
    • Ensure staff engagement, alignment, and productivity; Develop staffing plans that
      maximize major gift fundraising opportunities, including annual and multi-year goals
    • Responsible for achieving budgeted revenue goals across major and planned giving
      portfolio
    • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, innovation, and ambitious goal-setting
      across the Major Gifts team
    • Serve as the organization’s principal gifts strategist impacting $1M+ gifts
    • In partnership with the Chief Philanthropy Officer (CPO), facilitate the planning and
      execution of campaigns by establishing fundraising objectives, timelines, and integrated
      plans. Collaborate with development leadership, grants administration, events staff,
      marketing, donor relations, and board/volunteer leadership to ensure coordination and
      clarity
    • Partner with the CEO, CPO and Board of Directors to expand the Board’s networks and
      equip Directors to serve as effective ambassadors and support organization fundraising
    • Build relationships with key stakeholders throughout the organization including program
      staff, SAB members, LRF Directors, grantees, and patients to stay current on program
      and research offerings and impact and maintain familiarity with overall lymphoma
      research and trends
    • Personally qualify, cultivate, and actively manage a portfolio of 80-100 donors; Establish
      and execute strategies that advance moves-management process and generate
      revenue, multi-year pledges, and future gifts that advance the LRF research portfolio
      and unrestricted program needs
    • Perform other major donor activities as required by Development and Foundation
      leadership as they are identified
    • Maintain ongoing familiarity with lymphoma research and trends
    • As needed, will represent the Foundation at programmatic events across the country

    Administrative (15%)

    • Responsible for overall major and planned giving budget; ensure accurate and timely
      forecasting and reporting, including responsibility for monthly projection reporting to CPO
      and Finance
    • Review and analyze internal data and external trends to understand trends,
      opportunities, and challenges, and develop and operationalize a 3-5 year strategic plan
      across major and planned giving, overseeing deferred/estate gift strategies that elevate
      our marketing and cultivation of future gifts
    • Collaborate with donor stewardship to ensure consistent and high-impact stewardship is
      part of the donor engagement lifecycle
    • Create timely reports that reflect full portfolio progress, including monthly reporting to
      CEO and CPO
    • Regularly review Major Gift portfolio systems, processes, and fundraising infrastructure
      and make necessary augmentations/ recommendations to support a sophisticated major
      gift operation and sustained revenue growth
    • Prioritize professional development of team members by providing growth opportunities
      and mentorship, and by setting clear goals and objectives to be reviewed on an ongoing
      basis
    • As needed, will represent the Foundation at programmatic events across the country
    • Manage the internal process related to documenting and organizing donors in the
      deferred/estate gift category
    • Record, with timeliness and precision, information about prospects and donors using
      Raiser’s Edge; also report activity and monitor resources and expenditures associated
      with portfolio
    • Perform other organizational tasks as assigned

    Skills and Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree is required
    • Professional experience must include a minimum 7-8 years experience in major gift
      fundraising is required, with a minimum of 5 years in a management role
    • Proficient in budget oversight, including forecasting and reporting
    • Demonstrated experience in effectively managing a portfolio of diverse management
      responsibilities, with a proven ability to meet goals and benchmarks
    • Strong understanding of data analysis as well as KPI and performance-metric
      management
    • Excellent communication skills (oral and written) and a demonstrated ability to work well
      with others, as well as independently
    • Detail-oriented and highly organized
    • Willingness to travel a significant portion of time (domestic), and work nights and
      weekends when needed
    • Skilled with Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Microsoft Teams) and experience
      with Blackbaud products (Raiser’s Edge, Financial Edge, etc.) preferred
    • Customer service oriented
    • Strong communication and writing skills
    • Ability to work in a team or independently as needed
    • Possess a valid driver’s license and be willing to drive to/from events when traveling
    • Ability to lift and move supply boxes, must be able to lift up to 30 pounds
