To celebrate his outstanding achievements in lymphoma research and clinical care, his dedication to lymphoma patients and their loved ones, and his longstanding support of the Lymphoma Research Foundation (LRF), LRF will honor John P. Leonard, MD at its 2018 Annual Gala with its Distinguished Service Award.
An internationally recognized expert of hematological malignancies, Dr. Leonard, is the Richard T. Silver Distinguished Professor of Hematology and Medical Oncology and Associate Dean for Clinical Research at the Weill Cornell Medical College. He also serves as attending physician at the New York – Weill Cornell Center of New York Presbyterian Hospital. Dr. Leonard is Executive Vice Chairman of the Weill Department of Medicine at Weill Cornell Medical College and Associate Director for Clinical Research of the Meyer Cancer Center.
An expert in hematology and oncology, Dr. Leonard’s research has been published in numerous medical journals, and he has 
served as a member of the editorial boards of Blood and the Journal of Clinical Oncology, leading international journals in these fields.
During his term as Chair of LRF’s Scientific Advisory Board (SAB), Dr. Leonard oversaw the creation of the Lymphoma Clinical Research Mentoring Program (LCRMP), a mentoring and training program for early-career lymphoma researchers, and provided instrumental support in the creation of the Adolescent/Young Adult Lymphoma Initiative (AYAI), including the launch of the AYA Lymphoma Cooperative Group Correlative Grant, which awarded its first research grant in early 2015.
He remains on the SAB and continues to lend his expertise to a variety of LRF patient education resources and programs, as well as serves as a senior mentor for the LCRMP. In 2017, Dr. Leonard joined LRF’s Board of Directors to continue to further advance the mission of LRF.
He is a mentor and esteemed colleague to his peers and an avid advocate for the Foundation. Perhaps most importantly, Dr. Leonard has touched the lives of countless lymphoma patients and their loved ones and has advanced lymphoma research through his own work and through his commitment to investing in the next generation of lymphoma researchers – thus impacting patient outcomes for generations to come.
