Hundreds of Riders from Across the Nation Participate in Premier Blood Cancer Awareness Cycling Event

New York, NY (October 7, 2016) –The Lymphoma Research Foundation (LRF) – the nation’s largest non-profit organization devoted exclusively to funding innovative lymphoma research and serving the lymphoma community through a comprehensive series of education programs, outreach initiatives and patient services – hosted its 10th Annual Ace Lymphoma Luncheon in Montgomery County, Maryland on September 25, 2016. The special anniversary event drew over 360 riders from across the country, raising $500,000 in support of the Lymphoma Research Foundation and its mission.

The funds generated during this year’s Research Ride bring the ten year total to $4.7 million in support of the innovative research programs supported by LRF. This year’s event drew recognition and appreciation from Maryland’s Governor Larry Hogan, a fellow non-Hodgkin lymphoma survivor.

“Your selfless efforts mean a lot to me personally,” said Governor Hogan in an official statement. “…I would like to thank the Lymphoma Research Foundation, today’s event planners and participants, and everyone else whose support and dedication has raised public awareness for lymphoma and the funds needed to help fight it.”

This year’s event was held in conjunction with Blood Cancer Awareness Month, a national initiative designed to raise awareness of and funds for hematological malignancies such as lymphoma. Riders of all skill levels were welcomed to choose from 10, 25, 40 or 50 mile routes, and race day participants were treated to a catered breakfast and lunch, a DJ, and special presentations by lymphoma patients and caregivers.

“We’ve been incredibly proud to see how the Research Ride has grown and evolved over the last decade,” said Dr. Bruce Cheson, MD, FACP, FAAAS, Georgetown University Hospital Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center, Past Chair of LRF’s Scientific Advisory Board, and co-founder of the Lymphoma Research Ride. “On behalf of the Research Ride Committee, we are grateful for everyone who has contributed to the success of the Ride over the last ten years, and look forward to another decade of research advances made possible by events like the Ride.”
