The Lymphoma Research Foundation (LRF) is proud to be a national thought leader in the area of public policy, advocating for polices and legislation that will improve the lives of people with lymphoma and CLL. The Foundation leads efforts to ensure that the needs and perspectives of the lymphoma community are considered and integrated into public policy at the federal level.
Toward that end, the Foundation Board of Directors unanimously approved the 2019 Public Policy Agenda on January 23. The Public Policy Agenda outlines the Lymphoma Research Foundation’s policy priorities for the year ahead and will direct the efforts of thousands of patient and caregiver advocates across the United States. This year, the Foundation will prioritize increasing funding for the National Institutes of Health and the National Cancer Institute, including enhanced support for lymphoma research and the nation’s clinical trials enterprise. The Foundation will also support legislation and regulations which seek to increase access to comprehensive lymphoma treatment and cancer survivorship care, recognizing the increased number of cancer survivors in the United States and the needs of people living with and after a lymphoma diagnosis.
“Despite the great progress being made, lymphoma is expected to be the seventh leading cause of new cancer cases in the United States this year alone,” said Foundation Chief Executive Officer Meghan Gutierrez. “We must do everything we can to ensure that federal lawmakers prioritize the needs of our community and continue to invest in life-saving cancer research.”
The LRF Advocacy Program provides volunteers with the tools necessary to garner attention and support for those public policies most important to the lymphoma community and which are outlined in the 2019 Public Policy Agenda. When you register to become an LRF Advocate, you will join a network of more than 5,000 Americans who want to make certain the voice of the lymphoma community is heard.
Once registered, you will begin to receive regular advocacy updates from the Foundation. These Advocacy Alerts enable you to make a meaningful difference, often in just minutes. When you receive an Advocacy Alert, LRF will describe a policy issue and the way in which it affects people with lymphoma. This email alert will prompt you to visit the LRF website for additional information and provide you with a standard email message that you can personalize and send to your representatives in Congress.
Participating in the LRF Advocacy Program takes just minutes but is a critically important part of the Foundation’s efforts to ensure that the needs of the lymphoma community are addressed by federal lawmakers and in support of its 2019 Public Policy Agenda.
