The late Dr. Oliver Press, Past Chair of the LRF Scientific Advisory Board (SAB) and long-time SAB member, was internationally known for his expertise in lymphoma and other blood cancers, and widely recognized for his commitment to supporting early career scientists and physicians. Dr. Press’ legacy of mentoring young investigators is maintained by the Lymphoma Research Foundation (LRF), and will continue through the Oliver Press Postdoctoral Fellowship Grant.
The Oliver Press Postdoctoral Fellowship Grant is designed to support investigators at the level of advanced fellow or postdoctoral researcher in laboratory or clinic based research with results and conclusions that must be clearly relevant to the treatment, diagnosis or prevention of lymphoma and chronic lymphocytic leukemia. Past recipients have completed research projects in both the clinic and laboratory.
This year’s awardee, Anat Biran, PhD, Postdoctoral Fellow at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, is taking on the important work of deciphering the role of disordered methylation in chronic lymphocytic leukemia development.
LRF recognizes that cancer researchers are faced with increasingly serious challenges due to the impact of limited grant funding and the evolving research and treatment landscape. LRF’s unique commitment to young investigators enables the Foundation to support high-risk, high-reward science and ensures that the next generation of cancer researchers are dedicated to studying lymphoma.
“Dr. Press was an extremely accomplished lymphoma physician in bench research, clinical research, and clinical trial research. His mission was always to instill good quality science, compassionate and high quality care, how to teach, and compassion. He touched the lives of so many. His genuine approach, spirit, intellectual curiosity, desire to help patients, mentorship abilities, and sincerely were also remarkable in a very accomplished academic career.” – Dr. Thomas Habermann, LRF Scientific Advisory Board Chair
The Foundation is honored to memorialize Dr. Press’ commitment to supporting the next generation of lymphoma/CLL researchers and to offer the opportunity to members of the lymphoma community to continue this unique grant program.
