Now Accepting Scientific Advisory Board General Member Nominations – Deadline noon EST, March 14

The Lymphoma Research Foundation is pleased to announce a call for nominations for membership to its prestigious Scientific Advisory Board (SAB). The SAB is comprised of 45 general members, who are experts in bench, clinical, and/or translational research across all subtypes of lymphoma, including CLL. SAB members guide the Foundation’s research portfolio and scientific programming and serve as advisors for the Foundation’s national patient and professional programs. General members are peer-elected by the membership of the SAB and serve five-year terms, before an option to run for re-election if they have met the criteria for membership during their term.

For the 2025 election cycle, there are nine seats on the ballot; five current general members are running for re-election with an additional four open seats available. In an effort to increase the institutional, demographic, and research expertise diversity on the SAB, the Foundation is committed to opening the general nominations call for each election cycle from 2022 onward to the general public.

Eligible nominees must:

  • Be a laboratory investigator or clinical researcher with a background in basic science, pharmacology, pathology, radiology, and/or clinical trials who specializes primarily in lymphoma or chronic lymphocytic leukemia;
  • Hold a primary appointment or position at one of the following:
    • An academic medical center, irrespective of tax-exempt status, with established excellence in cancer care and research
    • A clinical care practice with an active cancer clinical research program.
  • Be willing to attend two SAB meetings per year as well as participate in other Lymphoma Research Foundation activities, such as review of the Foundation grant applications, patient education programs, scientific workshop steering committees, and meeting with donors or other stakeholders as part of the Foundation’s development and outreach efforts. General member terms are five years; new members elected this year will begin serving their terms on July 1, 2025.
  • Nominees may NOT be salaried employees  — and/or have a financial conflict that is determined to prevent a member from fully participating in SAB activities, including grant review – of an entity primarily defined as a developer of pharmaceuticals or medical devices, or any other entity creating a conflict of interest with the Lymphoma Research Foundation or the lymphoma research community. Nominees who meet all other eligibility criteria will be asked to fill out a financial conflict of interest form for the SAB Nominations Committee’s review.

The SAB Nominations Committee will review all submitted nominations and select a slate for the final ballot.  Please note that this year the nominations committee will give greater weight to nominees who:

  • Represent an institution, geographic region, or demographic that would enable the SAB to increase the diversity of its membership. (A list of the current SAB membership may be viewed here.)
  • Have research expertise in areas where the Nominations Committee has identified a need for increased representation, including:
    • Bench research for any lymphoma subtype
    • AYA and/or pediatric lymphomas
    • Chronic lymphocytic leukemia
    • Survivorship, health outcomes and/or health disparities research

Submitting a Nomination:  Those who wish to nominate an eligible lymphoma researcher should fill out the form here: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/SABnom2024.  Please note to complete the form, you must have the nominee’s email address and provide 1-3 career highlights demonstrating the nominee’s achievements in lymphoma research and/or involvement with the lymphoma patient community. Self-nominations are permitted. Nominations must be submitted no later than noon EST, Friday March 14, 2025.

Nominees will be contacted by the Foundation to fill out a financial conflict of interest form if they are determined to meet all other eligibility criteria and confirm their interest in running for election (if not self-nominated). Nominees who do not fill out the financial conflict of interest form will not be forwarded to the Nominations Committee for consideration.  Nominees will be notified by June 2025 of the results of their candidacy.
