Statement of Lymphoma Research on Access to Quality Cancer Care In Response to Dobbs V. Jackson Women’s Health Organization

The Lymphoma Research Foundation (LRF) is dedicated to ensuring that lymphoma patients have access to quality care that is evidence-based, medically appropriate, and equitable.   Ensuring such access includes an open and thorough discussion with the patient about their diagnosis, overall health status, comorbidities, and treatment options that are appropriate for the patient.  For patients of childbearing age, issues related to pregnancy and fertility must be fully considered.  Tragically, for some patients continuing a pregnancy after diagnosis and during treatment may put the patient’s life at risk; the pregnancy may also be threatened by cancer and its treatment.

LRF is concerned that the Supreme Court ruling in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization would make it impossible for many lymphoma patients to receive the counseling that they need and the full range of treatment options that might be necessary for the best possible outcome.   In many states, not all treatment options will be available.  We are concerned that the practice of patient-centered care will be threatened, and urge policy makers and community leaders to examine the needs and health of people with cancer as they consider the provision of safe, evidence-based health care.
