Hundreds Celebrate Together to Raise Funds for Lymphoma Research at Mandarin Oriental New York
New York, NY (October 18, 2017) – The Lymphoma Research Foundation (LRF) – the nation’s largest non-profit organization devoted exclusively to funding innovative lymphoma research and serving the lymphoma community through a comprehensive series of education programs, outreach initiatives and patient services – hosted its Annual Gala, An Evening of Incredible Inspiration at the Mandarin Oriental in New York City on Wednesday, September 28, 2016. Held for the first time during the month of September, this year’s Gala represented a culmination of the awareness and hope raised during national Blood Cancer Awareness Month, levying over $ 1 million in support of the Lymphoma Research Foundation and its mission of eradicating lymphoma and serving those touched by this disease.
Hundreds of distinguished guests from across the nation came together on Wednesday in support and recognition of the Lymphoma Research Foundation and their partners in their shared mission to bring about a world without lymphoma. In honor of her commitment during her tenure as a member of the LRF Board of Directors, this year’s Founder’s award, the Freundlich Leadership Award, was presented to Miriam Phalen, while long-time Foundation volunteer Paul V. Majkowski, Esq. was presented with the Distinguished Service Award for his various fundraising and advocacy efforts as an LRF Ambassador and Chair of the Northeast Regional Leadership Council. In the true spirit of night’s theme of An Evening of Incredible Inspiration, this year’s Corporate Leadership Award honored Pharmacyclics LLC and Janssen Oncology in recognition of their continued commitment to patient education programming and innovative treatment paradigms.
“For the 700,000 Americans who have been touched by a lymphoma diagnosis, this was a night to both inspire, and be inspired by,” said Michael Werner, Chair of the Lymphoma Research Foundation’s Board of Directors. “And based on the incredible progress that we have made in the last few years, I believe that we will functionally cure most types of lymphoma within the next decade if we adequately fund our brilliant scientists.”
In just a matter of minutes, this year’s Raise It For LRF segment, presided over once again by Sotheby’s C. Hugh Hildesley, raised over $325,000 for LRF’s innovative research portfolio and patient support programs. During this unique and exciting portion of the evening, attendees pledged gifts ranging from $100 to$50,000.
“Tonight’s incredible event was a tremendous opportunity for the Lymphoma Research Foundation to recognize some of our longtime supporters and partners for their commitment to eradicating lymphoma and serving those touched by this blood cancer,” said Meghan Gutierrez, LRF Chief Executive Officer.
